This is an insult clearly said by Mrs. Dubose, a fictional character introduced by Harper Lee in To Kill a Mockingbird. It is evident from Mrs. Dubose’s statement that blacks are discriminated against in Maycomb County, Lee’s fictional setting located in Alabama. The â€Å"Jim Crow† laws cause the inequality in the Maycomb community. The laws keep Negros from having the same rights as white citizens: â€Å"She ran to the front porch†¦she’s supposed to go around in back† (124). Scout, another fictional character created by Lee, is stating this. She is referring to the point that their black cook, Calpurnia, is going to the front door of a neighbor’s house instead of the back. The â€Å"Jim Crow† laws plainly explain that no Negro is supposed to go to the front of a white man’s house; blacks have to knock and enter from the back. Lee illustrates that the racial â€Å"Jim Crow† laws enforce segregation on social treatment to blacks and n*****-lovers in To Kill a Mockingbird. In Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, there is concrete evidence of the effect of the â€Å"Jim Crow† laws on her fictional characters and setting. The blacks in the story are bullied by most of the white population. The segregating laws prevent education for the blacks and regular day-to-day privileges that whites receive. In this writing assignment I will discuss why some people choose to behave so outrageous that we see it as abnormal self-destructive behavior and why others try to fit in this society and follow the rules. In the United States there’s people from all over the world from different cultures and traditions. I will give my personal opinion on some of the issues and controversies in our country. My first issue is about drugs. Many people feel that certain illegal drugs like heroin, marijuana, and cocaine should be legalized. I think it’s a crazy idea, people feel that is they legalize it at first we would buy it but then we would get bored and the use will decrease, but how many lives will be lost? Is it worth taken a chance? I don’t think so, tobacco is legal and people don’ t get tired of smoking, so if they legalized these drugs more and more people will get addicted. The effects of any drug depend on several factors like the amount taken the user’s past drug experience, the manner in which is taken, and circumstances. Heroin is a highly addictive drug derived from morphine, which is obtain from the opium poppy. It is a downer that affects the brain’s pleasure systems and interferes with the brain’s ability to perceive pain. Heroin can be injected into a vein or a muscle, smoked in a water pipe, inhale as smoke through a straw or snorted as powder via the nose. Cocaine is a powerful central nervous system stimulant that heightens alertness, inhibits appetite and the need for sleep, and provides intense feelings of pleasure. Cocaine’s short-term effects appear soon after a single dose. Marijuana is usually smoked as a cigarette or in a pipe or a bong. If you have a job and you are selected for a urine test marijuana will show up. The short-term effects of marijuana include problems with memory and learning, distorted per ception, loss of coordination, increased heart rate and anxiety. The long-term effects of these drugs include slowed and slurred speech, constricted pupils, droopy eyelids, impaired night vision, sedation, coma, addiction, convulsions, heart failure, paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, loss of interest in sex, marijuana even contains some of the same, and sometimes even more of the cancer-causing chemicals found in tobacco. These drugs can hurt you and those who surround you. I don’t understand why would anyone go through the risk of dying of overdosed and just the fact of addiction is a nightmare that many choose to live every day of their lives. Drugs bring me to my next issue which is why some people think that alcohol and tobacco should be illegal. Let me start by saying that millions of lives would be safe if smoking and drinking was illegal. Is it fair for innocent people to die because of a drunk driver or because of second hand smoke? How much do we value the lives o f others and our own?. You don’t need to drink much alcohol before your ability to dive becomes impaired. The more heavily you drink, the greater the potential for problems at home, at work, with friends, and even with strangers. One of my family member was an alcoholic and I know that they face a lot of problems like arguments with the family or friends, loss of employment due to absences or decreased productivity, committing or being the victim of violence and also alcohol can cause a range of birth defects, the most serious being fetal alcohol syndrome F.A.S. (physical abnormalities, mental impairment). Children born with alcohol-related birth defects can have lifelong learning and behavior problems. Some problems, like those I mentioned above, can occur after drinking over a relatively short period of time. But other problems such as liver disease, heart disease, certain forms of cancer, and pancreatitis often develop more gradually and may become evident only after long- term heavy drinking. Women may develop alcohol-related health problems after consuming less alcohol that men do over a short period of time. Some drinkers develop alcoholic hepatitis, or inflammation of the liver which can cause death if drinking continues. If drinking stops, this condition often is reversible. Alcohol also causes cirrhosis which is not reversible and causes death unless you stop and you’re chances of survival improve considerably. Moderate drinking can have beneficial effects on the heart, especially among those at greater risk of heart attacks, such as men over the age of 45 and women after menopause. It wouldn’t be so bad if alcohol was illegal and you could only get it like most legal drugs with a medical prescription. Long-term heavy drinking increases the risk for high blood pressure, heart disease, some kinds of stroke, and cancer, especially cancer of the esophagus, mouth, throat, and voice box. Women are at slightly increased risk of developing breast cancer if they drink two or more drinks per day. Drinking may also increase the risk for developing cancer of the colon and rectum. The pancreas helps to regulate the body’s blood sugar levels by producing insulin. The pancreas also has a role in digesting the food we eat. Long-term heavy drinking can lead to pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas. Alcohol had a great effect on body, and it does more damage than good. Tobacco is anoth er drug which I think should be illegal. Tobacco contains nicotine, an addictive drug that makes it very difficult for users to quit. One out of every three smokers dies from tobacco related disease. The tobacco industry main targets are teens, minorities, and women. Nicotine has both stimulant and depressant effects upon the body. Stimulation of the central nervous system may cause tremors in the inexperienced user, or even convulsions with high doses. People who use tobacco products frequently depend upon it providing the side effects, some of them are the stimulation of the memory and alertness, alleviation of boredom to help them accomplish certain tasks at specific levels of performance. Tobacco is believed to have an addictive potential comparable to alcohol, cocaine, and morphine. There are many associated health risks. In general, chronic exposure to nicotine may cause an acceleration of coronary artery disease, peptic ulcer disease, reproductive disturbances, fetal illness and death. We all know there are many good reasons to stop smoking or never start. Tobacco can also cause brain damage, there is strong link between smoking and strokes; it increases cholesterol and decreases the vitamin C levels in your blood. Smokers have a higher lifetime frequency of substances abuse, severe depression, anxiety disorders, and other psychological problems. Smoking can also make you look older. Heavy smokers have nearly five times as many wrinkles as their non-smoking peers . Since more people get connected to the Internet every day, pornography has become a very discussed issue in our society. Constitutional rights freedom of speech and expression do not factor in to the risk of harm carried by pornography. There is pornography protected by the First Amendment and illegal pornography which is not. Pornography use is a choice, and is like an addictive drug; a little can get you hooked and too much can damage your life. Pornography aside, sex is selling for businesses that aren’t even selling sex. The mere existence of the advertising industry and the billions of dollars spent on advertising are proof that visual images persuade. I do think that pornography is psychologically and socially harmful and should be illegal in all forms. Pornography shapes attitudes and the way people view relationships and sex roles, specifically by normalizing aggression towards women for some men in sexual and other interpersonal encounters and increasing the tolera nce for aggression toward women in the larger culture. Sexual interest and sexual acts of any kind are mistaken for acts of love. Sex gives the illusion of being loved and appreciated. In the absence of love, people seek intimacy through porn and sex. Casual sex is portrayed as exciting and desirable outside of a committed relationship. Beauty is measured by proportion of body parts, shaping unrealistic expectations of what a woman’s body should look like. Pornography’s messages about sex and sexual fulfillment are misleading. Pornography also hurts kids. Teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases like Aids are completely nonexistent in porn, giving a false believe that there is no adverse consequences to behaviors depicted in pornography. Teaching that sexual experimentation with anyone, anywhere is a major theme considered â€Å"fun† in pornography. Pornography teaches that women enjoy being stripped, forcibly abused and even raped. Other messages in por nography are drug addiction, prostitution, exhibitionism and voyeurism are branded in the minds of children as normal behavior. One such message is that women are sex toys readily available for sexual fulfillment by anyone and are devoid of value, worth and feelings. These messages found to hurt adults have an even greater impacts on kids. Child pornography consists of photographs, video tapes, books, magazines, and films that depict children in sex acts, all of which are illegal. Child porn has become a sophisticated multi-million dollar black market industry. Hard core pornography of adults is legal to posses but illegal to distribute. My last point of discussion is the choice women have of abortion. There are for options when a women is pregnant with a child. First the option of having and raising the baby, thus bearing responsibility if she could have helped conceiving the child, in cases where the pregnancy was due to consensual sex. The other option is to have the child and ra ise it, thus showing love to the child where the woman isn’t responsible for the pregnancy, she was raped. The third option is to have the child and gave it away for abortion, regardless of how the child was conceived. The last option is to have an abortion. The morality of abortion depends upon the nature and identity of the thing being aborted. I do think that abortion should be illegal except in cases where the baby had a defect or the woman was raped. I do believe abortion is the taking of a human life, being morally equivalent to murder or manslaughter. The issue of the identity of the unborn (is it human or not?) is prior logically to the issue of the woman’s right to choose. There is no morally relevant difference between a fetus and a viable child who is outside the womb. Fist the size of the fetus doesn’t determine its humanness; the level of development which would mean that a 25 year old man is more human than a 13 year old boy; the environment, so if I step out of the house, do I become less of a human being? also the degree of dependence, appearance and function, many people have hardly any functional abilities at all but they are still considered humans. Abortion is permissible in the case of rape. Rape is bad. There is no doubt about this. But if abortion is taking the life of a human being, then adding murder or manslaughter to an already existing rape hardly solves the problem. We have four logical possibilities concerning abortion. First the unborn is a human being and we know it. Second the unborn is a human being and we do not know it. Third the unborn is not a human being and we know it. Fourth the unborn is not human and we do not know it. To me abortion turns out to be the intentional killing of a human being, which should e considered murder. If the case abortion is not murder. But it is not okay either. Abortion turns out to be manslaughter. For manslaughter is the unintentional killing of a human being. What lives in the womb is a real child, a small person, a human being essentially like us, in the first phase of his or her existence. Our society will never be perfect and I think that’s our main goal. Soap operas Essay Although this is true, it is still an issue that teenagers, especially, must be aware of. For this reason alone, I think that there should be more discussion about how to avoid date rape, and how to protect oneself from even getting into a situation where one could be raped. In the soap operas All My Children, and Sunset Beach, there are sexual issues that revolve around teenage relationships. There were discussions about whether or not to wait before having sexual intercourse. In All My Children, the storyline was about a teen-aged birth mother suing the adoptive parents for custody of her child. This storyline allowed for several discussions about the consequences of unplanned and unprotected sexual activity, and about the importance of waiting until one is ready before engaging in sexual intercourse. Although soaps sometime discuss the consequences of sexual acts, there are too many episodes that let sex just happen without any real discussion of its consequences. For instance on the soap Sunset Beach, there is a character, Annie, who is about twenty five years old, who sleeps with everyone on the show who has something that she wants. She is very rich and extremely manipulative. Through her conversations with friends, the audience learns that, deep down, all she wants is to find true love. Obviously she will not achieve what she really wants by being so sexually promiscuous and amoral, but some audiences may think that you can get what you want by sleeping around. If there are all of these negative images and ideas portrayed throughout soap operas, then why is it so popular to women? In a recent study done by Woods, he asked 100 high school girls about 23 possible reasons for watching soap operas. The top ten reasons were, (a) I just enjoy watching them, (b) it gives me something to do, (c) soaps are fun, (d) they fill up time, (e) its a pleasant way to rest, (f) they relax me, (g) soaps are a habit, (h) I can forget about school, (i) I can get away from my family, (j) and soaps cheer me up. It is apparent that these responses are what people might say for any television show. What attracts people to soap operas and the reasons behind them being fun and relaxing is because they deal with issues that happen in real life. Not everyone is going to get raped, or accidentally pregnant, but everyone should know that it can happen to them and they should be careful. It is interesting to think that maybe women are so attracted to soaps because it makes their lives seem more normal. Greenberg and Woods used a survey by the author Compesi to compare adult and adolescent results to similar questions on the reasons for watching soap operas. He mailed 52 surveys consisting of gratification items for the viewers of, All My Children. the findings for soaps and adolescent gratifications are a close match to those for soaps and adult gratifications. Although people do change, I feel that the foundation of what draws people in and interests continues in one way or another throughout a persons life. Recently the issue of homosexuality has been incorporated within soap operas. In All My Children, the teenaged character Bianca came out as a lesbian. Along with this came her struggles of being accepted and the ability to find a happy relationship. There were a few episodes dealing with Biancas romantic happiness and with the fact that she had a crush on a straight woman. There was one episode where Bianca asked Frankie, a homosexual female that she was friends with, if she was afraid that Bianca would make a move on her. Frankie insisted that she didnt feel uncomfortable with her and also assured Bianca that she didnt want her to give her more space and that she valued their budding friendship. When another character, Vanessa, arrived, she ordered Frankie to leave Pine Valley because she lied to her about her sexuality. She asked Frankie to move out, saying that Frankie should have been honest from the beginning. Alone, Bianca offered to help Frankie find another place, but Frankie rejected her. Bianca told Frankie that, as usual, someone she liked was pulling away from her. In this example it is apparent that it is rough on a persons self-esteem to not be able to find love or a true friend because of ones sexuality or sexual preference. I would imagine that these episodes are not unrealistic in the life of a teenage lesbian, but I noticed that they did not portray a fulfilled life for one. The steamy love scenes are the norm for heterosexual couples, yet when it comes to homosexuals, they are rarely even allowed to touch. Every few scenes within an episode show two heterosexuals kissing, or being sexual with each other. When it comes to homosexuals, there is usually just discussion about the hardships that the person is enduring, and there are rarely any visual depictions of sexuality. Starting a few years ago was the first time that a lesbian kiss was even shown on daytime television. This issue of homosexuality is more open and talked about then it used to be, but they still do not seem to be portrayed the same as heterosexuals. Although gays are not represented accurately, watching them interact can desensitize some people that are uncomfortable dealing with those people who choose that lifestyle. Soaps deal with the issue of pregnancy as well. Having a baby could be a happy and exciting thing for some people, but it seems like most of the pregnancies on soaps deal with the negatives of pregnancy, like teenage pregnancies, pregnancies due to rape and pregnancies with twisted stories to them. An example of this is from the soap Sunset Beach, where the character Vanessa, an engaged woman, was impregnated in vitro. Due to an accident she was unconscious and the woman who was jealous of her boyfriend gave her the injection. It was not the sperm of her fianci , Michael, but a different male. Michael, who is now sterile, thinks that she is pregnant from him, but knows that he could not be the father. He thinks that she must have slept with another guy, and the saga continues. The is an exaggerated scenario, of course, but this type of situation allows for the audiences thoughts and discussion of safe sex and trust in ones partner. These are issues that every individual must deal with at one point or another, which may be another reason for the popularity of soap operas. If I were to speculate on the potential effects of viewing such content, I would say that viewers are getting ample information about sexual activity that promotes the idea that sexual activity is appropriate and beneficial for heterosexual couples in established relationships. The issues of rape, teenage sex and pregnancy, single parenting, drug addiction, abortion, infidelity, and death are all issues in which characters have dealt with. This allows the audience to discuss these issues without talking about themselves, which can be uncomfortable. An individuals morals and values about sex should stem from the home. It is the parents job to try and teach their children what sex and being a sexual person is all about. If these values are implemented, the young viewer should be able to decipher between what is right, what is wrong, and what is exaggerated. There are a variety of reasons for women to be attracted to soap operas, and sexuality is definitely one of them. Being a woman is a very powerful thing, and many people do not understand that. Some women and teenagers may feel that power when watching a sexual encounter, knowing that they have the power to do the same thing (less dramatically of course). As Le Corbusier saidif we cannot suit to the situation of the new trend, the cities cannot meet the requirements of modern lifestyle (Corbusier 1987, 84). At this time, after the World War 1 (WW1), the Europe returned to peace. A great rebuilding process began buildings, and whole cities needed to be rebuilt. At this time, technology was vital to speed up this usually slow process. Express train and car speeded up the travel; telephone and radio reduce the commuting time and skyscrapers increased the city density. On the other hand, the modernist principles already were put forward. Both the real situation backed up and influenced by the theory basic gave people the opportunity to rethink the city of tomorrow. Finally,urban utopias emerged as the time requires, and Le Corbusier’s modernist ideal city is one of the most crucial parts (Hall 2011, 11-18, 28). The form of the modernist ideal city aimed to improve health of citizens, reduce commuting times, create more open space and get more sunlight, this way le Corbusier wanted to solve the social conflict (Greed 1996, 101-102). In 1914, Le Corbusier stated the Dom-ino House (figure 2). It is made of reinforce concrete and it reject the traditional load bearing wall. The frame structure frees the internal space which can be divided freely. low-cost, convenient, uniformity and standardisation all those figures show why He believed the Dom-ino system can meet the people’s requirements after WW1 (Frampton 2001, 21-22). In 1922, Le Corbusier published a blueprint of a contemporary city with 3,000,000 residents. And it was the first time for Le Corbusier to describe a whole ideal city. He searched a pure mechanism order. In his eyes, humanity would lost from chaos but revive from the pure order. In order to express the order, pure forms was used by le Corbusier. All the elements of city such as houses, roads, industries, offices even human were classified by function (Corbusier 1987, 15). The whole city was planned by clear hierarchy of class; people were divided into three parts, citizens, suburban dwellers and the mixed sort people. Roughly 400,000 to 600,000 citizens who were treated as urban elites lived in the 24 60-storey skyscrapers in the city centre. In Corbusier’s opinion these skyscrapers were vertical streets, which contain shops, hotels, etc. Furthermore, they only covered about 15% area of the entire city, which dramatically increase the density. At the same time, considered the environment pollution and human needs, the rest 85% of ground should be free for green lands. The working class (about 2,000,000) was planned to live in the garden city, which was influence by the garden city movement (Corbusier 1987, 163-176). On the other hand, fast traffic played an important role in the city. He (Corbusier 1987, 191) pointed out â€Å"that the city which can achieve speed will achieves success-and this is an obvious truth.† The whole city was connected by transportation system. And planner used symmetrical grid of streets to replace traditional â€Å"corridor street†. Two great arterial highways ran north and south, and east and west intersecting at the exact centre of the city (Corbusier 1987, 163-176). In general, the whole city worked as a huge machine. In 1932, Le Corbusier showed a more daring blueprint-The Radiant City that was more authoritarian and more libertarian than the Plan Voisin. The principle of design is existenzminimum (Corbusier 1976, 6-7). Every building would be strictly designed on the human scale. Furthermore, the radiant city has no class divisions. All of the people live in high-rise apartment blocks â€Å"Unità ©s†. Each block intended for 2,700 people and included individual service and public facilities such as shops, restaurant, swimming pools and gymnasiums (Corbusier 1967, 162). In order to avoid waste of space, the size of the apartment was decided by the family’s needs not class. Buildings raised on pilotis free the ground land and would be benefit to fast traffic and green land. Symmetrical grid of highway connected the whole anti-street city (Frampton 2001, 51). In addition due to the rigid functional zone, human behaviour was strongly ruled (Evenson 1973, 118). Conclusion In my opinion, the modernist ideal city movement was the product of era. And the design of Brasilia was a great experiment, which successfully proved that the theory of modernist ideal city cannot totally suit to a real world. The fact proved that the modernist ideal city is good-looking but not practical. Personally, Le Corbusier was contradictory, he rationally planned the whole city but perceptually wanted to destroy the original city; he rationally ruled behaviours of human but perceptually thought that everyone has the same requirements; he rationally treated house as a machine but perceptually treated human as a machine too. Furthermore, the most controversial point is that the modernist ideal city is an autocratic city that does not leave any space to other possibilities. It is a unique answer for le Corbusier (Marshall 2009, 38). However, no one can ignore the worldwide influence of the movement especially in post-war time, we can still find the shadow of Le Corbusier in many modern cities such as London, Canberra, shanghai, etc. With time goes by, various movements of urban deign emerged. Prince Ahkeim Jahfar wakes up on his twenty-first birthday and realizes that he is to be wed to a woman he has never met before. This is a custom that is traditional in the royal family of Zamoonda, Africa. His father, King Jahfi Jahfar had been planning this wedding for many years. The woman who is groomed to be the prince's wife has been trained since birth to learn everything about the prince and what he likes. She is trained to fill his every desire. As it turned out, the Prince was not satisfied with his wife to be because her intellect did not meet his standards. He decides to travel to America to find his bride to be. Prince Ahkeim and his servant Simi fly to Queens, New York to fill out the Prince's dreams. They arrive in a suburban area of Queens wearing very expensive suits and animal skins around their chest. Soon they find out that they need to change their wardrobe to fit in with the rest of the population. Prince Ahkeim plans to meet a woman that will love him for who he is and not for the wealth he has. He must make everybody he meets believe that he is an ordinary person from New York so that his cover will not be "blown". The Prince even gets a job at a fast-food restaurant and works like a peasant would from his home. I strongly believe that optimal health is emotional balance, physical, spiritual, intellectual, and social health. Changing of lifestyle based on combination of increase motivation, learning experiences, build skills and creation of different opportunities that give us access to environment that provide positive health practice like the best choice. Moreover, health promotion is amount of information for individuals, communities, and family education. Health promotion is promotion of healthy lifestyle and healthy ideas and help people to achieved their best status of health. According to the definition of Health Promotion motivate people to take control over to improve their health. For health promotion we need to have support such as: create supportive environment for health and develop personal skills. Health promotion is the most important part of nursing care. Nurse plays important role in public health promoting. Focus for health promotion for nurses more point of disease prevention and changing lifestyle of individuals and their behavior. Moreover, that main purpose of health promotion in nursing is educate people and encourage them respect their health. Nursing role as health promoters is very complex, because of multi-disciplinary experience and knowledge of health promotion in nursing practice. Health promotion is focusing on removing bad influences on health to developing healthy environment and supporting individuals and communities to take control and charge of their own health. Moreover, health promotion build on health education and help people prevent many illnesses and injuries by supporting right healthy behavior. Programs for health promotions include intervention such as lifestyle changing, smoking cessation and primary method of prevention. Unfortunately, people rarely change their behavior that’s why implementation methods must be started in community as a first step for global changes. Local health promotion will bring to the people right set of priorities which can support to promote health. Health Promotion has three levels: primary prevention, secondary prevention and tertiary prevention. The major one is to protect people from experiencing an injury and protect people from developing a disease. For example: education about quit smoking, the importance of exercise regularly, good nutrition , dangers of alcohol and other drugs. Regular screening tests to monitor risk for illness. Secondary prevention is intervention after disease or risk factor have already diagnosed. The goal is to catch disease in slow face or in earliest stage. As educators we have to tell people to take daily low dose of aspirin as a prevention of stroke or heart attack. We can recommend regular screening tests and exams in people who have risk  factors for diseases. Tertiary prevention more about helping people take care of long-term health problems such as diabetes, cancer, and heart attack. For example rehabilitation programs for stroke, support group chronic pain management programs for the patients. I am nurse in Rehabilitation Center and Long –term facility. I have seen every day how rehabilitation program help people to manage their new lifestyle and how to fight with their illnesses. Else in our facility we have support groups. People can discuss to each other about their health problems, their prognosis and future expectations. Moreover in that group people share with their own experiences and can provide right and helpful information for the patient who just was diagnosed and have a long way ahead to accept that new role in family and community. For a lot of health problems primary, secondary and tertiary interventions combination is necessary to achieve a right level of protection and prevention. For ideal world Primary prevention is the best but unfortunately in our modern busy world not all of us follow the best way. The main role here play limit of knowledge about causes of some particular injury or diseases. Although, primary and secondary prevention are clear in areas as heart disease and cancer, may be not that much useful for musculoskeletal illness. In that case prefer to have primary prevention then secondary and tertiary. I am wound care nurse in long term facility and I believing that primary prevention for pressure ulcers is the best way to promote health for all patients. Bed sores are not a disease process and preventive method must be on the first place. Elderly population has higher risk factors to have bed sores because of age, fragile skin, complicated disease, chronic disease. Prevention is the best way to keep such patients in a good level of health. Many resources now available to prevent pressure ulcers in the long-term facilities: Air mattresses, turning and reposition every two hours and as needed, incontinence care every two hours and as needed, skin barrier, Moreover, physical and occupation therapy intervention: schedule patients for out of bed daily, special cushion to prevent pressure ulcer from prolong sitting. All of that can promote health to geriatric population and make their lives longer and more comfortable. Else, in wound care preventive measures less cost than treatment. Money that is saved on treatment can be good resources for future researches of wound care field. Wound Care still needs new researches to promote healing. The  main reason of prevention in wound healing is sepsis which can lead to death of the patient. We have to take care about our patients and the best care is prevention method. Advantages and Disadvantages of Organizational Structures Essay

Departmentalization: Advantage- More specialized in certain fields, communication is excellent because of the knowledge one has about the function of the job, easier to work as a team to get better results. Disadvantage-Staff does not always know the case of the client in detail, other organizations may not always talk to the same person, and very specific job knowledge is required, hard to find a fill in for positions. Matrix Organizations: Advantages-more flexible than departmentalization, more than one person in charge that one can go to for assistance, wider choice for employees that fit the need. Disadvantages-employees are harder to manage due to independence, could increase expenses, more employees needed, lack of loyalty to position, constant team work needed. The Project Team: Advantages-less managers, better communication, less stress on one person. Disadvantages-who is in charge may create conflict, lack of consideration for others, lack of accountability, lack of job focus. The collegial model: Advantages-independent functioning, independent decision making, each person is equal in responsibility, each generates own income, total flexibility. Disadvantages-lack of accountability, lack of authority. In day to day operations the Matrix structure would serve well for a counseling center as its advantages are stronger than its disadvantages, Project Team structure would be the better choice for the center as it has a stronger back bone to carry the center. The Departmentalization structure is the strongest of all choices as it divides the employees by knowledge and has a better opportunity to assist clients. The collegial model would not be efficient in a counseling center as there is no real set structure for day to day operations; its disadvantages are stronger than its advantages.

The bet

It was another lonely night for Mrs Maloney as she sat in her armchair in the middle of her living room with a cup of tea. Her husband had been out all day again in the bookmaker's; it was if he lived there. Eventually he came home and Mrs Maloney had prepared them both dinner, but his had gone cold because she had already eaten hers earlier hoping he would have been there so they could enjoy it together. â€Å"Hello dear I made you some dinner in the kitchen, you'll have to heat it up because its gone a bit cold now† she told him nervously. He replied negatively â€Å"Alright woman let me breath I've only just got in the door!† She could tell he had been in the pub as well the way he staggered in the door. Mrs Maloney quietly started watching television again when she heard Mr Maloney groaning from the kitchen. Then she walked in to see what was wrong, it was just him complaining again. She let him carry on eating it but sat down at the table with him. She asked, â€Å"So how was your day dear?† But he replied, â€Å"Let me finish my dinner first† So she did. â€Å"My day was crap, I didn't win anything† Mr Maloney told her. â€Å"My day wasn't brilliant either, but I found something out† She informed, â€Å"What's that then?† Mr Maloney asked, â€Å"You know Jim from the butchers.† She replied â€Å"Yes† he said curiously † Well his wife is expecting a baby. Isn't it great news† she replied. She felt really depressed now like someone had just died. It was getting late so Mrs Maloney decided to go to bed; on the way up the stairs she asked, † Are you coming up dear?† He groaned â€Å"in a minute† Later when she was tucked up in bed she heard Mr Maloney switch the lights off and slowly creep up the stairs. As he entered Mrs Maloney pretended t be asleep so he wouldn't say anything. He climbed into the bed and gradually dozed off. The next morning she woke up and gave a big stretch only to find that Mr Maloney had gone. Mrs Maloney didn't make a big deal out of it and carried on as if it were a normal day, which in fact it was. After she had eaten and got changed she watched the television to check out today's news. It announced that the Grand National was running today, â€Å"that's why he's shot off then.† She told herself. She grabbed her coat and dashed to the town centre where the bookmaker's is. When she arrived it was rammed with people all doing their shopping there was hardly room to breathe, but she started searching for the bookmakers to find Mr Maloney. Mrs Maloney eventually found it but she just stood there outside thinking of what would happen if she went in. She picked up her courage and opened the door and everyone inside stared at her, she felt intimidated. She scanned around looking for her husband only to find he wasn't there. Meanwhile Mr Maloney was in his favourite bookmakers, which was in a nearby village about fifteen minutes away from his house. He had bet half his savings on this race because he had a feeling he was going to win. The race was about to start and Mr Maloney had been waiting around an hour for this. He was with his friend Robert who always went with him to bookmakers; they were like a partnership because they were never alone in the place. He told Robert â€Å"I know I'm going to win this time, I just know it.† But Robert replied â€Å"yeah same old story every time† then the race was off and the horses roared out of the starting blocks. Mr Maloney was shouting at the television â€Å"come on red lightning!† he watched with his glued to the screen but the horse was failing him as usual. The race was coming to an end and red lightning was not winning but Mr Maloney didn't care about that anymore, he was more worried about the fact that he'd lost half his savings. Then he picked up a bottle and poured a glass of whisky, after he drank it he threw the glass up the wall and it shattered all over the floor.
